Who are the BootB (Best out of the Best)
Creators on the Planet?

We were very curious to know who the best Creators on BootB are for the time being. So we decided to make a BootB rating of the Top100 BootB Creators. It is of course a preliminary list; anyway, I’d like to share it with you today.

Armint with 2 Pitches won and 15 “Kept Solutions” (thumbs up) is on the first line among more than 12,000 registered Creators.

I will anticipate some answers to good questions about the system of ranking:

Only impartial assessments were used: number of wins, number of Solutions sold as Additional Purchase (Solutions bought by a Brand on top of the winning one at the end of a Pitch) and number of Kept Solutions.
Wins have the highest value, followed by Additional Purchases and then Kept Solutions.

I am honored to be part of this huge creative community, and I’ll never stop to thank BootB for the opportunities it gives me every day! Thanks to you all. About the ranking, I think it could be appropriate to make the “thumbs up” system binding, because certainly a lot of creators have published solutions that have remained without a trial, and so out of the ranking and, most important, this doesn’t help neither the creative growth nor the deep understanding of the pitches needs. Have a creative day!

what if 2 Creators have the same results, meaning wins + additional offline wins + thumbs up?

4ever

i think this post is a bit nonsense once nobody can see what these called ‘top creators’ have done…

and as taste is personal when not cultural, I don’t believe bootb’s opinion is the only one that counts…

maybe you are trying to attract more traffic to your blog?

or what’s the point then? inflating the ego of 100’s and letting apart the other 11.900 users?

great strategy to cheer us up!

I’m honored to be in the top 50 (just).
I would reeaaaaallllly love to see more winning solutions in action - even if you only send it to the thumbs up entrants.. so they know how close they were. I enjoy the challenge so much but sometimes don’t know if it’s worth the time and effort (as a sole trader) ‘cos I don’t know how close I am to winning… :)

ANSWER TO McCANNY:
In case of same results, first will appear who achieved those results with less Solutions. Do you think it is correct?

ANSWER TO 4ever:
I really thank you for your straighforwardness! BootB is a one year old baby who is doing his best but it’s far away to be even good. We are a bunch of people from all continents and cultures trying to build a real Republic for Creativity.

BootB’s list is just a list and not at all an opinion. Only facts were taken in consideration in drafting the list. BootB’s opinion counts nothing; because BootB is nothing else than all of you, its creative department.

I promise you that the least of my intentions was to inflating and letting down egos.

The objective is to make Brands understanding that BootB is truly the system to unearth the best creative ideas from all around the planet; and by doing this, to push them investing more and more.

I’m sorry if we cannot show most of the GREAT Solutions that have won. I kindly ask you to remember that BootB is NEVER the owner of NOTHING: your Solution wins => the Brand will become the owner; your Solution doesn’t win => you’re still the owner (and can re-sell your Solution in the future, after fine-tuning it in response to a similar Brief).

About this I would really appreciate if you could answer to a question/dilemma: would you prefer that Solutions that you send to BootB could be published after Pitches are finished (meaning loosing the Intellectual Property)? Or to keep the possibility to re-sell your job?
Thanks in advance for your answer, help and sincerity!
Impartially yours, Pier

How can we be sure that the companies we pitch to don’t use our creative ideas for other campaigns in the future, as we are not in their country to see it, let alone claim copyright?

Pier.Ludovico.Bancale

ANSWER TO Lenco:
A BIG thank you for unearthing not only your GREAT creativity but also your very reasonable doubts.
Coming to your question, thanks god the internet makes the world really small. It will not be easy for unethical Brands to steal ideas without paying for them. Campaigns, logos, designs are visible thanks to search engines, blogs and other web tools.
Moreover, please consider that you will never be alone in claiming your rights. BootB will always be on your side and support you in the process.

Ethically yours, Pier

I appreciate your words Armint so I hope BootB will consider a Top100 with the classic “indice di gradimento” by the the other creators {which don’t have to be able to not vote for themselves of course… sorry my mistrust! LOL} which involves publishing in each profile the campaigns and the other proposals made. The profiles as they are don’t say nothing about the level of the creators. I invite the creators to publish their own works on their blogs. Thank you all!

Pier… the dilemma gets to a point I can agree with but partially only. If we use BootB is just to reach clients our small agencies {usually “one-man agencies”} wouldn’t else never be able to reach. Re-adapting ideas and sell them to someone else goes against the Ethic a good Creative has to make town. The fruit of my word means something when is the idea behind it comes from a pitch and responds to a specific “client” characters and needs only. I’m a 35yo professional with 20 years career in Advertising… always small clients, a dramatic incapacity to “sell” myself to clients and not resources enough to hire an agent with a portfolio of clients to make my agency grow up. I’m not the only one with such limitations, Bootb is supposed to give a chance to take a step up in a career inside the Advertising and Communication market. It’s not enough to show how many pitches we win or how many thumbs up we get… what counts is the quality of those proposals {and for experience I know clients not always choose the best proposal possible… the evidence of that is the enormous amount of Bad Advertising we all can see around us anywhere at anytime}, the skills of the Creatives and their experience.
My proposals for Acqua Sant’Anna {a thumb up for that one} or that one for Omnia Botanica which was even better still are the highest point in design quality and capability to “read” the brand’s needs of my entire career.
Anyway I tell you what… was more gratifying than any win what my father said about those creations of mine, his compliments and his pride. Working with him since I was just a teenager till few years ago has been the hardest school possible for a Creative and a reason of pride for myself. Sorry for all the winners of pitches but I won the most important prize a Creative and a man can aspire to.
Of course I will be a lot more grateful to BootB the day when this creative community will give me the chance to get a prestigious contract with a brand… a brand that fairly recognizes the value of Creativity, a… Good Creativity!

Thanks for being so open. Your passion mixed with total transparency is awesome and I really thank you for this. Your curiosity is absolutely normal. Actually, curiosity is one of the main forces that moves the world wide web. BTW, “Unlimited Curiosity” is also the slogan of our BootB Blog… :)
Your current rank is 109.

I take the occasion to tell you -and all other citizens of our Republic- that many BootB Creators already got contacted by companies and agencies and some of them had the chance to receive offers. I hope that soon it will happen to you as well. BootB wants it! Because BootB is only a “pitching engine” and our mission is to be the platform that gives the best way to run pitches/tenders via “crowdsourcing”. Every time Brands want to do outsourcing they should ask BootB Creators that proved to understand and create outstandingly for them (on BootB :))

WOW!
It seems to me an interesting idea to publish a list of the most creative of the moment is at a point of view of vision as a group (after all there are too many clubs in the world by agencies that are popular in different ways the same thing basically ).
Certainly is a starting point that will be developed and improved over time.
Regarding the question of Mr.P.L.Bancale personally think that it is afforded the opportunity to work on their work to improve and sell to another potential customer even at the expense of publishing a finished contest.
Thanks BootB :)

Pirpan

Thank you, I’m really pleased to be in this Bootb list, that was a nice surprise. But I agree with Pier when he says it’s just a list, it’s up to you guys to radically change it in a few months. On another hand, I would suggest to the ‘men in black’ of the Bootb Organization to adopt a winning procedure similar to the Oscar one, with short lists and nominations. This would morally reward other creators that were almost near to win but they never knew it. What are your thoughts?
Thanks.

by Pirpan
April 7th, 2009

Pier.Ludovico.Bancale

ANSWER TO Pirpan:
It would really be fantastic if we could do what you envisioned.

At the present stage of development we don’t have enough power vs. Brands to push them doing so. We are still a “baby Republic”, with only 1 year experience.

Up to now, BIG brands tried BootB with minimal budgets, because they have contracts -usually with exclusivity clause- with traditional offline agencies. The bad thing is that they consider BootB as a simple test and they are not willing to spend too much time for the moment (time that would be required to make nominations and then to select the winning Solution). The good thing is that they were all happy about the creative results which they got and some of them will renew their contracts with offline including the possibility to use BootB.

On the other hand we had small to medium Brands. They are much more cooperative but they really have not enough human and financial resources. Human resources are needed to make nominations and financial resources to run many Pitches (or pitches with high budgets).

AGAIN, THE IDEA IS GREAT, THANKS Pirpan… I HOPE THAT WE’LL GAIN THE POWER TO MAKE IT HAPPEN!

Positively yours,

“would you prefer that Solutions that you send to BootB could be published after Pitches are finished (meaning loosing the Intellectual Property)? Or to keep the possibility to re-sell your job?

Pier, first of all, thanks for your reply and for appreciating my honesty and sincerity.

You know when an idea is genuinely yours or not… if in the other ‘corner’ of the planet someone has had the same or a very similar idea, who’s the owner of the intellectual property in this case?
In a extreme case just a judge could decide it…. and unless you treat this strictly within the terms of the law and/or have a patent requested nobody can really protect or claim any intellectual property at all…

So my answer is: No, I don’t think that by hiding my work It would be better for my or anybody’s success.

About reselling I believe is ok to revamp a layout and give it a fresh look in case you haven’t sold it and this can be done in any case, showing or not is not what makes the layout good or bad, is it?

So, I hope that in the near future we could have more interactive functionalities in bootb’s website, maybe something like:

-It’s up to the user to say if he/she wants to make their work public or not.
-It’s up to the user to select the work they want to share publicly and to remove it from public view whenever they want to…
-It could even be just for bootb users…or people with login details/subscription, which can attract more people to your website….and still be within the ‘boundaries’ of the Republica…
- is like having an inspiration bootb gallery kind of thing….
-It could be nice to have a vote too, for visitors to rank the work or allow a comments area so people can also share thoughts about the work…

just ideas Pier, ‘it’s easy to talk but then to go there and do something…” you know.

Good luck and success for all

” by Pier.Ludovico.Bancale

Thank you for your words Pier, I can tell you they are more satisfying than any rank but you already know this my point of view.
You will certainly appreciate my new considerations and suggestions about the system you’re building up to make creators take a profit if not by the value in money of a won pitch only just because the level of their proposals or just because of some visibility in the Republic.

Here my proposals:

1. Publishing a more complete list where Top100 are visible just writing their names in bold… being 109 in the rank on 12000 citizens like I am is gratifying a lot but still sounds like a mockery of destiny! If, as you say, many creators have been contacted with proposals by the brands a small agency like mine, which has difficult to find clients with contracts which should help it to hire agents and other collaborators, could have a better chance to be visible.

2. Keeping the list updated with periodical ups and downs of the creators in the list… so brands can see, for example, that Armint is 1st today but 3rd tomorrow and 109th {sorry Armint… was just an example, nothing personal!} next month and have a clue of what’s going on in the Republic.

3. I attended to only 2 pitches and I’m 109th in the rank but how many pitches {in each pitch I made just one proposal only but for technical reasons during the uploading that appear being more than the effective one concurring for the victory} did Armint attended to and with many effective proposals? Does the ranking keep these details in consideration during the ranking process?
Why to not create a second list with the Top100 ranked per number of proposals delivered?

4. The Oscar of BootB is a great idea… a prize going not to the winning proposals but for those who ~ for quality, design, innovation and whatever ~ have given evidence of excellence. For doing that I guess would be enough to ask the brands to specify not only a preference with thumbs up and down but a vote {like from 1/10 or 0/100 for example} to the selected proposals by originality of ideas, design quality and capability to “read” the pitch. In that way is possible to not only valuate the winners but a wider range of proposals to really create a sort of “BootB Creativity Awards” which is also another way to put the Republic and its citizens under the spotlights and to give to BootB prestige.

5. Add a page in the website where people and brands can always have a look to the lists.

I hope these simple 5 suggestions {I like giving a hand…LOL!} can help to improve the success of the republic and of its citizens.
In such a direction, dear Pier, I think is a good idea to open a BootB’s Republic using the OpenSim and LindenLab {Second Life} technologies, where creators and brands can have new creative instruments. I would like to give you my support and contribution by demdesignSLgroup and my own experience inside Second Life to make that happen.
Is not the intention to turn BootB into a game… using the creative platform of Second Life {which is not a game but a creative instrument like Photoshop or a 3D application or a communication tool like Skype} proposals can be tested effectively and improved by creators.
I’m a man of ideas, I enjoy being creative… I hope my spirit is contagious and inspiring.

Thanks for the awesome opportunities and feel free co get in touch for more!

Essentially you make “results” and “creativity” synonyms. I’m certainly not opposed to getting results; it’s what clients pay for. But campaigns or executions may succeed in the marketplace whether or not they are truly “creative.” I’d suggest either renaming the awards (e.g, Most Productive, Most Successful) or defining the word “Creator,” so that it actually reflects important attributes associated with separating that which succeeds from that which is creative. Of course it is certainly possible for a piece of work to meet both sets of criteria. However, that doesn’t make them interchangeable.

Hello everybody from Italy and from Mappy!
Good question Pier, why we want to be always at first place? why we still improve?
I could write rivers of words, but I think this movie is the answer: look!

LInk: http://www.youtube.com/watch?gl=IT&hl=it&v=HVQDc1w2l_w

The protagonist of filam is defined in sporting The Zar of ice.
Look at his eyes just before beginning his performance, for me the answer to your question is there!

It is a fire that some people will bring early childhood, is an instinct that leads you to say I want to be the BEST!Many times you have to go just to dig in childhood people to understand the true motivations.
But the best ones in mice have always a common feature, and is recognized when they meet … there is no need to talk. Is the light that are in the eye and willingness to share. The best people feel and need to share their success and help others to improve!
